newsroom to use xts3k's. scanning question

Post by dvpman »

My local TV news newsroom has just bought 2 xts3k's UHF model3's and have asked me to set them up. I have programmed the right channels in them, all 125!!!

Now the big problem SCANNING. I set up a astro spectra a few months ago and used the "hang up disables scan" option so the operator could stop scanning on the channel that had something happening on but with the xts this is not a option without using the XVA.

What about using the silent monitor with a latch time of .5 of a second ?? so the secure switch is the scan on/off and the orange button will be the monitor, xts stops on a active channel and the operator wants to stay there with out turning the scan off and changing channel to the one with "something newsworthy" he/she presses the monitor button till the speaker icon stays on (.5 sec) this should hold on that channel till the silent monitor is cancelled ???? does this sound right to anyone here or does anyone else have another idea ?

Regards

Mike

The neat way to do it would be to set the top orange button (or any other, but the top button is quite easy to hit quickly) for dynamic priority, and enable the dynamic priority in the scan list. If they hear something that they want to monitor, they can just hit the orange button. The current channel will then become the priority channel, and all others in the scan list will become non-priority channels. I am assuming that you are using non-priority scan to start with. If your scan list is setup for priority scan, then this method will not work properly.
