I have been working with Motorola regarding an IR Site not connected to the zone controller. Basicly site trunking, we are looking too know if we have an Astro Mobile radio connected to a DIU then to the console will the DIU decode ID / Emergency and display same at the console ? Remember no zone controller.
If you know please call me 609-538-7618
Astro IR Site DIU Unit ID Emergency

I am a little unclear here, perhaps you can clarify.
Is the system Astro25 trunking or Astro trunking (3600 BPS Smartnet W/CAI) all digital or mixed mode?
Is there a ZC somewhere in the system and this site is too far away for affordable connectivity or is this going to be the entire system?
Is the Astro mobile radio intended to function as a 'control station' to provide the console with a talkgroup or talkgroups to access the remotely located IR site?
If this were the case, I don't see that you would need the DIU since it performs the A to D / D to A conversion and the Astro mobile has its own vocoder to do that.
I assume the console is Gold Elite?
Normally (in Astro trunked systems), the DIU's are in a resource pool the ZC assigns to a particular call & sets up the path through the Ambassador switch to put it in the loop.
The other common set up has the DIU in line between the console an a conventional (non-trunking) channel Astro25 base/repeater (Quantar).

I doubt it. I agree with XMO, the DIU is not necessary since the radio already does it's own D/A converting. And, while not completely familiar with them, I don't believe a DIU offers any other functionality in your case. Any type of trunking emergency signalling is routed to the COIM via the TIMI/AIMI linked to the Central/Zone controller, not through the BIM card (which is where the DIU connects). But, who knows, the boys at Motorola may come up with something for you, in 6-24 months time.
