Help: MTX8000 display has "missing lines"

Post by kyledooley »

I picked up my MTX8000 (B5) last night and turned it on and some of the pixels in the display are not firing. The pattern is like every so many vertical strips arent' firing. Kind of like looking at the display through a set of blinds.

It hasn't been dropped or anything, just sitting on my desk, so its sort of a mystery to me.

Is this something that can be fixed like a connection or something, or will I have to get a new display for it?

I haven't had the radio apart in a while, Is it possible just to replace the display cristal? Ballpark price? Anyone have one?

This kind of sucks because I've tentatively sold it to a guy and he wants to pick it up monday. I'd like to have it fixed for him.

Pointers appreciated.

Thanks,

Kyle

Sounds like a bad flex cable.

Crack the radio open, and carefully remove and reinsert the flex cable that goes from the controler to the display and see if that fixes it. Other than that, I think that's about all you can do besides taking the whole head appart and testing each point on the cable to see where it is bad.

My MT2000 has the same issue, but it goes away and is a really random problem. It hasn't annoyed me personally enough to do it.
