EEprom CS Error 6.10.04

Post by lej512 »

I have been programming motorola mobiles and portables for over 20 years and motorola pagers for as long as they have been programmable. I work with 4 others who have been doing it for nearly as long. I (we) have never toasted a radio that resulted in a eeprom cs error. Since updating our HT/CDM software to version 6.10.04 all legitimately licensed, I have had had to send a CDM-1550, a CDM-1250 and two HT-1250's back to Motorola. I find it extremely difficult to believe that this is not somehow related to the most recent software release. Has anyone else had this kind of luck lately? I've had it happen with a ribless RKN4075A (OEM) cable on the HT's and with a Polaris Industries PA-III RIB on the CDM's. Am I missing something?

What radios do you own?: HT1550's, X9000's, CDM1550's

i'd say that's the most common error in that whole series? next would be the 1739 i think it is, wrong region code? but it's not like it just started happening with just that revision, i've seen quite a few every year.

Same thing here. I work in a public safety self maintained shop and never bricked a radio in my life until our new CDM CPS release was installed (06.10.04). I had to send (3) back in the last 6 months. A friend just told me there is a new version that just came out where this problem was fixed. (06.11.04) And supposedly M acknowledged that there was indeed a problem.
Does this mean we should all get our $284 back?

No you don't get a refund, you just download the new version.

No it was not a joke. When you purchase CPS/RSS you get a license good for three years (I believe it's three years, if not I will be corrected), you log onto your MOL account and download any updates.

I know all that. You totally misunderstood what I was saying.
I was referring to "about getting the $284 refund" was a joke. Meaning it would never happen.

hi, do you guys mind giving more information on your programming setup(PC specs, programming cable, rib/ribless, USB-serial etc) when you see the EEPROM CS error issue pops out? Also , does the issue only occurs/ or occurs more often when you all using CPS 6.10.04?

In addition, do you notice any significant issue/abnormal behaviour/not regular programming behaviour with CPS 6.10.04 compared to other previous releases?

Thanks for the input

You got off cheap for $284. I had to send an HT-1250 in and the flat rate bench charge was $365.25. I have the new version and the only difference I see is it places the radio in "TEST MODE" before programming now. I did recover a CDM-1250 though I still feel like we got boned on the portable. Oddly enough, all previous versions of the software have been removed from their website. I even went so far as to open a "case" with Motorola and really got nothing but a toe dance from the tech who contacted me. What are the choices? Throw out a brand new radio because of a corrupted codeplug or pay the ransom to get your radio back. I paid the ransom.

Or put it on a maintenance contract and wait a handful of months to send it. Contracts are about $6 per month per radio.

What I have found is that with 6.10.04 there seems to be some restructuring of the codeplug data. Typical for Motorola, possibly because of the Unofficial Waris Lab floating around out there. I have stopped using 6.10.04, I found you cannot use earlier versions of the software, if the radio is written with 6.10.04. It actually when used, caused the radio to display unprogrammed when it was programmed and the radio could be read and edited. I see 6.11 is out but I'll wait a while for the bugs to be written out of that revision. BTW I had 3 HT-1250 radios right out of the box, go bad ee prm after their first programming, we sent them back to Depot not realizing that Motorola will replace them free. After numerous cases and a lot of time with Motorola customer support, radios were replaced Fed-EX overnight. If you had an out of box failure, I would call customer support and report it, you may get your money back.

You can actually use 6.09.06 interchangeably with 6.10.04, the codeplug version does not get changed when using 6.10.04. So any structure changes in 6.10.04 ostensibly were introduced in 6.09.06

This entire Pro series line has been the Biggest pain in my but. Failure after failure. If it wasnt for having the mdc decode I would switch to kenwoods.
