HP 8924C Assistance Requested
I just received a nice HP 8924C and am trying to figure out exactly how to use it. I am making some progress but a manual would be great. However, I haven't been able to locate one that covers the run of the mill sig. gen. spec. an. etc... stuff and not just CDMA testing.
Anybody have any PDFs or links?

Yeah, this machine is pretty sweet, I bought mine about a year and a half ago and I am in love with it. Can't beat a fully loaded monitor (ok, no P25, but in reality the most important digital alignments are referenced off analog alignments anyway) able to take gobs of continuous input power for less than a grand.
Re: HP 8924C Assistance Requested
Yep, the whole 892x series of monitors are quite impressive (with apologies to Wowbagger... the comparable instruments from IFRflex like the 1600/1900 were far harder to use and not nearly as "lab-grade" as the HPs). Although, the 8924 stands out as the "bench queen" of the bunch - gotta put that load for all that power somewhere... it's one HEAVY beast. I love my 8921 for field work, but want to find a cheap 8924 for the bench.escomm wrote:Yeah, this machine is pretty sweet, I bought mine about a year and a half ago and I am in love with it. Definitely a sweet machine. I worked a deal with the guy that is selling the 60 and 100 watt upgrade options on ebay. I was able to buy just the resistor and the cal data for a much reduced price than the whole ebay kit. It's a fairly simple process and includes the nice factory 60 watt input warning sticker for the rf port too.
The RF analyzer function is the schit. Automatic frequency, power, modulation, error...etc... detection instantly with no setup needed.
You can't beat a fully tricked out service monitor with just about every option available for a grand or less but damn it's heavy.

Dan (rfe_toys) has a metric assload of 892x parts... don't know where he came up with them, but I've purchased several weird parts from him and he's always come through, and all his stuff appears to be brand new.
Re: HP 8924C Assistance Requested
Can you guys tell me how to get it to wake up in analog modewhen powering it on? Right now it comes on in channelized cdma mode.
Re: HP 8924C Assistance Requested
Configure it how you want, then save (second, instrument state/save) to the POWERON profile.mancow wrote:Can you guys tell me how to get it to wake up in analog modewhen powering it on? Right now it comes on in channelized cdma mode.
Here's an odd one... my 8921 comes up in one of the on-board BASIC apps for field calibration. I've overwritten the POWERON profile and it does the same thing. Very irritating...
Re: HP 8924C Assistance Requested
OK, guess I'm dense. I'm not finding a power on profile. I hit the second blue button and then save and it presents me with several cellular profiles and I have the option to name a new one but I am not seeing a power on profile.
Re: HP 8924C Assistance Requested
You must create the poweron register yourself. You should go to the Agilent web site and download some additional manuals such as this user's manual:
http://cp.literature.agilent.com/litweb ... -90219.pdf
This manual explains the procedure:
"When the Test Set is turned on, it uses a set of instrument setup parameters
specified at the time of manufacture. You can have the instrument power up in a
different state by making the desired changes to the original settings, and then
saving them using the name POWERON."

Got it. Now it wakes up in spec-an mode with the parameters I want.
Thanks!
Thanks!
Re: HP 8924C Assistance Requested
Like the HP 8924, the HP 8921 and the HP 8935 all these units for servicing cellular equipment and base stations are going by the way side, meaning no longer supported, and was wondering, if there are any cell guys on the board, what equipment are they using now to service the cellular field.
