hell yeah they have. And I can't wait until someone reports on one.

How about it Monty?

I wanted one too (or a couple) but then I thought better of it, and
bought this 1200 instead
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 1380128560

picked it up in person for $400. It is mighty nice too.

As for the Sabers from Computer-Surplus-Outlet

First of all, I AM a Saberfanatic and I DO specialize in buying beat-
up, crappy looking, missing parts units that so far I have gotten
10 out of 11 to work excellent. one i can't fix because it was on fire.

But I was NOT willing to chance 200 dollars on a unit from this
outfit, when U can get a perfectly working unit W/battery and
sometimes charger for 300-350.

And judging from the previous warning post, I don't expect anybody
to leave them any negative feedback even if the display/controller
is missing. Most people FEAR retalitory feedback like the plauge.
My self included. Apparently a neg is worth more than 255 bucks!

HI:

Well?

I too may have fallen victum !

But I have made the effort. I have attempted to
contact the fellow, reports are they are closed
Fri-Sat-Sun-Mon

I did email him, left a message, and hopefully
I will make contact with him.

I am certainly a bit unesay about the Earlier
Posts, hence the reason for contacting him, and
I do understand the [ AS-IS ] condition, but the add
also could be considered a bit missleading if it says:

Was workimg when taken out of service....the Clue
word is [ Was ]...so who knows for sure.

But THATS Ebay !! and I do work on ALOT of radios
that persons buy off of Ebay....( and I mean alot of them )

So, I guess we will see.....If there is Only the Osc Module
Missing, I can live with that, I would be a Very Unhappy
Buyer if I got the Radio, and found a Hole had been Drilled
though the PC Board, and or modules missing which is Atypical
of decommisioning Gov Radios.

I am pretty sure he is aware of the Value vs Working ststus
since many have responded to him, and I am sure he is a
Seasoned Ebayer

But I guess time will tell........

I will know for sure if I start getting 10-15 requests for
Saber Repairs.....Fortunitley I cleaned out a shop with a
number of Saber Modules, and Controllers for earlier modle
radios. And NO I did not get many 16.800 Osc modules...A few
yes, but not many.

What radios do you own?: Progreso soup can with CRT

stuff on eBay...

Remember:

"Can't test" = "Doesn't work"

Or, "Soldering iron for sale; can't test."

(Huh?)

I got a DES KVL and a GTX portable from their last batch of offerings...both work fine.

Looks like maybe this group of radios came from a non-military/gov't source.

Hi:

I was fortunite as well, I purchased one one of the
Saber lll's ( after making a inquiry 1st ) and I did receive
one in very good condition both inside and out.

I also bought a keyloader, and it was fully functional
as well.

They really are in the Computer Business ! and get
Auction Lots as is / and where is....So they really just
resell what is purchased.

The fellow I spoke with ( the owner ) seem to be very
cooperative, and underdstanding, but was not ready
for the impact on his last batch of radios.

The Majority here are very savvy, and well, they were a
bit clueless about either the value or the condition.

He also was very [ Clear ] about the AS-IS issues, and
prommised to make sure its very clear when / if he gets
anymore.

AS_IS will mean AS-IS, and no-refunds, no exchange,
as its not something on their pirority lists of things to
sell.

And I agree as well, sometimes a gamble pays off, some
times one craps out.....But finding a UHF SABER lll for less
than 200.00 in very good to perfect condition is a pretty
fair deal.

Hopefully everyone got a fair deal.

Anyhow, since a few board members wanted a report
from me, I thought I would pass on what I got.

Computer Surplus

Post by bls106 »

I also got bent over the desk by these guys... to a point.

I got a KVL that was "Taken out of working service" as well. However, got it, hooked up the battery, DOA. After trouble shooting, I found a bad battery / fuse section (broken).

Wrote them about it, got no reply. Then I had a brain storm (ok. So it was only a little shower). The KVL may not power up, but... there is a very nice little Hybrid setting in the unit. Hmmmm, got a HLN600 board and no Hybrid. Hmmm. Not no more. I was able to salvage something out of it.

The EPROM is there also. Keypad seems in decent shape. Its a 3020BX. If someone needs that EPROM, I'm sure that we can work something out.

I wanted to complain to ebay, but find it really obnoxious. Never thought about Paypal.

On a similar note: bought a 3010 from another person. Got it, DOA. Again sold 'As Is", "reomved from working service". Contacted him, got a refund immediately and told to keep it. I suggested to him that if he was going to be continuing to sell a bunch of these, that he buy a battery and charger to keep on hand to at least test the power up. He thanked me and did so. You will see in his ads "Tested for power up only". If it doesn't power up, he states so. I made this same suggestion suggestion to computer surplus. You can see how far that went.

Again, if anyone needs the EPROM for a 3020BX, drop ma an email.

Thanx for letting jump on my soap box, and good hunting.

Brian
