For awhile I suspected that a spectra A9 head would work on an astro spectra as a W9 head with a firmware change. I sent a HCN1073D Spectra A9 head that had the firmware installed from a W9 HCN1078 head to JAYMZ5329. He had a hi power vhf W9 astro radio that he needed a head for. JAYMZ5329 told me the head programmed and works fine on the astro spectra.
I always suspected this because I have converted W9 heads to A9 head by changing the firmware and have them work on spectras and x9000's.
Thought everyone would like to know.
Thanks
Jason

JMR is correct. I received the head today and programmed the radio(without the head using the pin 20 to 22 jumper idea) with 132 some odd channels. I put the radio in the car hooked up the head and it works like a charm. It doesn't have any strange behaviors at all that I've noticed. The radio powers up and goes through a proper self check. It seems like the only difference between this CH and a normal Astro CH is the "Astro" label is missing on the Control Head. BFD.....
