Was reading about flashcodes and was wondering just what does this feature do: "Q241 ASTRO Ready (Analog Operation ONLY)" and what is the difference between it and "H15/H44 H15 is Astro Data / H44 is VRM500 for MCS2000 only". Thanks kindly.
Astro ready has no form of digital operation at all in the radio. Several of our XTS's are flashed this way. If you read the radio in RSS, you cannot get into the Astro settings, since there is no IMBE or VSLEP in the radio.
Basically its a really nice MTS2000 in a Astro Housing.
As for H14 Astro Data, if your ASTRO system has the data interface, you can send/rx data in between voice transmissions, from the radio to a MDT/Laptop/whatever. Its a nice feature if you want to add mobile data and you don't want to build a dedicated wireless data system. Works well for small/not so busy departments. It generally works on the same voice channel. If you go to the M website (under the two-way radio section), there is a document that tells you how it works

Well, here's what I get from the self test: 5.00.02 and DSP of 6.04.09 with a 1MB board. It doesn't do any type of trunking, which is really what I wanted to monitor the local all-digital(non-encrypted) township. However, I'm still new to the whole flash thing so I don't know what I'd need. I believe they are simply Astro trunked in the 470's....so what flash/options would be needed to safely monitor them? Thanks.
All you need is to have the right digital format in the radio, VSLEP or IMBE. 9 out of 10 times, its going to be IMBE.
In order to "PROPERLY" hear the trunked system, you need the "system key" loaded into the radio to enter the trunking information. However, unless you are cozy with the system administrator for the radio system, its not going to happen.
Other then that, you will have to enter the channels as conventional, and scan them that way....
OR, just wait until the Uniden Scanner is released in Jan and that will work the best. No system keys, no major programming etc.
