Talon Mount (reliable)

Post by dbcomm »

Looking for sugggestions on how to mount the Whelen Talon, using something other than the suction cup mounts that come with the unit. Talon will be installed in an '03 Tahoe, and I'm pretty sure that I'll have to come up with something custom. Has anyone seen this light through factory blue tint? What kind of degradation are we talking about here? Thanks.

southwestpublicsafety.com has some pics of the talon through tint

From my experience, leds are really cut down bad behind tint.. strobes seem to shine through better.

I'd take the suction cups out and screw the talon in through the suction cup holes

appears to be what they did here..

THe factory brackets work fine. They are just a little too tall for my liking. Ive mounted them in SUVs' and ford PI's

On the contrary.. LED's cut the tint 10x better than any strobe..Strobe doesnt have the power to cut a 30-40% tint

Thanks for the input. I should have elaborated a bit. The Talon is being installed as a takedown, and I'm having trouble finding a way to mount the thing either below or above the mirror. I really don't want to screw it in to the headliner where the screws are visible either. Thanks.

You might need to do some dremeling, but one of the board members here ghetto'd the bracket and mounted it to the bottom of his rearview mirror - looks slick on his 03 tahoe - lemme see if I can get some pics.

And I agree - LED hands down is MUCH better at cutting through tint compared to strobe!

3M makes a very thick plastic type velcro that works very vell for these applications. Instead of a hook and loop both sides of the velcro have plastic locking fingers. Search for heavy duty velcro or look at the 3M site.

In the new tahoes: Take down the center overhead unit where the compass is - Use standard cable ties to mount the light. Works very well and doesnt block too much of the light. Works real well!

mounting

Take the top bracket that has the suction cups on it. put it over the top on the rearview mirror so it suctions to the mirror. then take the other bracket attacted to the light an attatch in underneath the mirror. Walla it fits perfect an looks really good. I did this on a chevy impala an dodge dakota.
