At power up, my Spectra is very loud (volume). In the RSS the minimum volume adjustment is set to 1. I have no control on it with the front buttons. I can set it higher (sound and numbers work) but it does not affect the audio from the speaker
Look on the command board for leaky capacitors. The leaking electrolyte may have eaten through (or shorted, because the electrolyte is conductive) a trace that controls the volume setting going to the audio amp (the chip that bolts to the chassis for a heat sink).
If that's the case, you need to remove the command board, remove the caps, clean the board by submerging it in isopropyl alcohol (99%, available at electronics stores), install new caps and reinstall.
