Yellow MT1000/HT600/P200 antenna?????

Anybody seen these before and why were they made yellow?

I've seen them on some Sabers at hamfests before.

My guess would be that certain radios in a fleet would have them for ID'ing pruposes.

Been probably close to 10 yrs. since I saw one of these, at the time I was told they were used by the US Navy for shipboard comm's. on GP300's by a fellow selling a bunch of them at a hamfest. He might be right ?

Gawd, that's UGLY! I've seen aftermarket Jedi antennas that are red. They actually don't look too terribly bad.

i probably sold 250++ of those things for saber/mt1000


i used to have the part number, but i've lost it.

it was an SP02 part as i recall.


and yes, it WAS for the navy....

i wonder if there is an SMA version out there?

If theirs was it might look interesting on a yellow xts case. :)

Anyone got some links to the mentioned aftermarket gear... Just curious... MOTOROLA OEM ALL THE WAY!!!!!!!!!! 8)

Yeah I didn't think it was that uncommon considering I only paid 3 bucks for it. I've never seen a red one though. Kind of reminds me of that VHF MT500 that was on ebay a long time ago that had red, yellow, and gray case parts mixed together. :lol:

Maybe it's a silly question, but... Even knowing that they were made for the Navy, I'm still curious as to why they had them that way. I can't imagine they'd do it without a good reason?

Mebey to make it more "noticable"?

Alot of stuff on Navy ships I've seen is yellow (IE warning stripes/safety stripes or lettering), so mebey it's just to make everything more 'uniform'.

That's just my guess.

The ones I had seen were the mold style and connector for GP300, Saber , and Genesis. Appeared to be the UHF mid split length but weren't color coded.

It's an MX thread base, not sure what color dot it is but it's most likely 440-470.

Looks to be the same length as the Stubby's on my P1225's.

The stubby ones I have (black) are green on the base. I yanked them off of an old fleet of HT600's that I had that were UHF 450-470 so I would assume the yellow one is probably in the same range.

i have never seen one with an SMA base on it.

I bought mine from a guy at the Orlando Hamcation about 10 or more years ago. It has green on the bottom of the threads, and the threads allow it to fit on my HT-1250, MT-1000, GP2000.

Y'all don't know what that is? It's the very rare, ultra kewl Passive Amplifier Antenna System only issued to certain personnel attached to specwargroupbatlabs.

The yellow lets the RF out more better?

It was the secret way members of the Order of the Antenna identified each other?

I give up, that's all I could think of on short notice. :roll:
