Motorola SP50 UHF/VHF?

Post by SilasGore1 »

Ebay auction # 160067554052

Is this a typo/error or is such a unit made with both bands together in one portable like this? Just wondering...

No VHF/UHF dual-band SP50 radios.

Porbably one of each band.
In God we trust. Everyone else, we run through NCIC, Thinkstream, and III.

Judging by the antennas, they look to be both UHF, ask the seller for the model #, or to confirm that there is one UHF and one VHF...

We all dream of a dual band motorola portable...

Don't let the antenna be any guide! I bought a VHF SP50 brand new from a Motorola dealer way back in the day. It came with a UHF antenna. I hadn't realized until many years later.

Back in my day UHF had stubby antennas and the low band ones were so darn long you could fish with the things!!!

Yes, the antenna length is deceiving, but then again so is the descriptions people put on Ebay for their auction radios!!! Ask most of them a question and they haven't a clue, that is why I came here...

i agree both antennaes look uhf but you never know but i'd be willing to bet that since he has 2 of them, they talk to eachother. i'd still ask for model numbers, even if they are both uhf you don't know which uhf split they are.

Judging from the seller's grammar skills, he has no idea WHAT they are. The only way to tell for sure is "don't ask us, ask him."

Get him to send you the "numbers" of the radios, and look them up, or post them back here.

I told him what number to read, but he just wants to sell them, he doesn't seem to want to figure them out. How can they just put things on and expect them to sell? They'd get more $$ with a description, but they don't realize that... I have moved on to looking at other auctions just for fun, once and awhile you can get a real bargain if you are in the right place at the right time.

That's half the fun. If the seller has no clue what they're selling, it's not 'advertised' properly, so you can sometimes pick it up without much competition and get a real bargain.

once and awhile you can get a real bargain if you are in the right place at the right time.
I missed out on a nice ASTRO rig that went for like $130. Perfect working condition, too. It looks like it was just one 'serious' guy bidding, with no one to drive it up. :(

Anyway, back on topic... If you're still interested, you might ask him if the two radios talk to each other, which even a complete idiot could answer.

Not a hard question, there's two basic possibilities.

1--He's a dummy and really cannot read a label

2--He's a crook and knows full well that these radios are hacked/stolen/etc

It's a big world out there. Most of it isn't friendly.
