The dreaded "FAIL 01/93"
I know what it is. I know (for the most part, i think) what caused it....
I bought an MTS2K on fleabay and read it w/ Lab RSS ver 2.00.01 (sep 8 93)....everything came up OK, and so i started changing the freqs from the former owner's to my local ham freqs....
After making said changes I hit F8 to program it....not F6/F7 for internal/external....
Than the infamous 01/93.
Before i hang my head and skulk off to the local Moto shop, is there any way to fix this? I'll guess not, but i figure i can take a little freindly ribbing and maybe learn something....

Re: The dreaded "FAIL 01/93"
Error 01/93 is an IMPROPER RSS message(flashport security error).
Upgrade, or change your version of RSS/CPS.

Re: The dreaded "FAIL 01/93"
When i attempt power on, i get "FAIL 01/93"......no errors...
I am entirely new to the MTS series--as far as flashing, upgrades, programming, and so on.........
How does one upgrade?

If you don't have a saved S-record (from THAT RADIO) you are SOL for clearing it out on your end.

Nope, neither will recover it...AEC wrote:Upgrade, or change your version of RSS/CPS.
Gather up all the loose news papers and magazines around your house, take the MTS and set it down right in the middle of the pile of papers as a weight..
Whether you are new to the MTS or not, you should have done a little more research on what software to use. Old lab should not have been your first choice..

If your radio has old firmware, programming it with the latest CPS will not add any new features unless you have the latest firmware to match..
CPS = Customer Programming Software, Not CPS Software.

Re: The dreaded "FAIL 01/93"
Check the controller #, such as (NCN6147A) and replace it with the same controller, with the same bandsplit and options...you MAY be able to read the radio then save the data.
Then swap to the corrupt controller and clone the codewplug back in to it.
May work, may not.
But it is worth a shot.
Your firmware version is obviously a toolproof vintage, and not pre, so you got bit using ANY version of LAB...NO NO!

Re: The dreaded "FAIL 01/93"
Nope, that's not going to recover it either.. Old lab does not calculate the auth code in the codeplug, hence the checksum error.. Cloning, programming, and whatever else you try with old software and srecs won't work unless the srec is from "that" radio before it was bricked.. Bottom line, at this point the auth code needs to be recalculated to clear the checksum error, end of story.AEC wrote:Check the controller #, such as (NCN6147A) and replace it with the same controller, with the same bandsplit and options...you MAY be able to read the radio then save the data.

Re: The dreaded "FAIL 01/93"
I don't brick radios, and never wanted to try, but recovery can be done.
He can use a good copy of real RSS/CPS and swap controllers, read that one and place the old back in and program the radio.
VCO crossover frequencies will be the same...all should be identical, so it should work.
Just tricking the controller to think it has the proper checksums, model definition and so on.
Use of LAB on anything but Maxtracs, MTX9000s and the like is foolish, and even more so with Jedis having firmware above 5.42(I believe).
Better try something that 'could' work, instead of simply giving up.
But if he does recover, it was a good lesson taught.
RTFM.....Info abounds here about toolproofing issues.

Re: The dreaded "FAIL 01/93"
Lessons learned:
1) RTFM
2) SAVE YOUR CODE PLUGS/S Records BEFORE mucking about
3) In DOS we trust
4 Labs are bad...Meth labs, College course labs, and MTSX lab....
Thanks for the help and suggestions all.......I think i may just suck it up and eat the cost of the mistake.....

He could also zap the controller a few times with static electricity, then send it to Mexirola..
