1. Yes, the radios stay in radio mode. You will need to define features on the accessory connectors, assuming these are 16-pin accessory connector radios. The receive radio will need to have a pin defined as Carrier Detect to indicate when a received signal is present, and in turn that will connect to the transmitter's PTT to key the transmitter.
2. If you aren't using PL, just program the radio to CSQ. This correlates with the above setting for carrier detect. If you are running PL, you would set the option pin to "PL & CSQ Detect" to allow for PL control.
3. Unless you wire the repeater as bi-directional, it doesn't matter if your TX radio has RX in it or not. You can program the receiver to an unused frequency/PL to keep it muted, or, program it to what your receive radio is set to so you can swap them in the event of a PA failure.
4. If these are 16-pin radios, there are many folks out there ("Will" here on the board, for example) who manufacture inexpensive "Plug and Play" interfaces for this exact type of setup. Using one of these might be your best bet for something quick and easy, unless you're wanting to do all the interfacing, etc. yourself. If these are 5-pin radios, the job gets a little more difficult as you must go inside the RX radio and source the Carrier Detect from a component.
Hope this helps.

thanks yes thay are 16 pin and I was going to use a id-o-matic 2 for the controller

Look here for my article on the ID-O-Matic repeater interface for two Maxtrac or Radius radios.n0izz wrote:thanks yes thay are 16 pin and I was going to use a id-o-matic 2 for the controller

Re: radius m120 need help on repeater setup
Be aware the M120 radios, although 16 pin, do not have access to the programmable pins in the RSS in regular radio mode for setting the COR. You need to use the repeater mode in order to access that. See this thread for details:

No trees were harmed in the posting of this message...however an extraordinarily large number of electrons were horribly inconvenienced.

Re: radius m120 need help on repeater setup
The ID-O-Matic mod works on M120's. No changes in the radio needed.

You can also have it interfaced into the transmit radio's mic jack. Most any Motorola mobile since the Radius and Maxtrac will work for the TX.

NO, the microphone needs to be plugged into the TX radio.n0izz wrote:if I have a mic does it go in to the rx radio to talk thanksWill wrote:The ID-O-Matic mod works on M120's. No changes in the radio needed.

I mentioned that the ID-O-Matic transmit can be interfaced into the Transmit radio's mic jack.
