Shuffled Band Plan option in ASTRO25 CPS

Post by CTAMontrose »

noticed this option, help says "Enables the radio's ability to obfuscate channel numbers intended to lock out unauthorized subscriber units from the current Trunking system"

so does this mean that now some TRSs could be enabled to keep scanners out of them simply by shuffling the channel assignments around?

So it would appear!

One would assume that the fixed end would have a corresponding parameter. With rebanding forcing most of the 800 systems to get new firmware for both the fixed end and the mobiles & portables - this may come fairly soon.

Wow. I can't wait to obfuscate our channel numbers!

Obfuscate - love those $10 words!

Hmm, yeah seems it may make a custom channel order list possible, from the sounds of it. Like an LCN for EDACS, possibly.

but if your using a scanner to monitor the system, are you really considered a "subscriber unit"?

Makes sense if the radio is trying afiliate, but not if a scanner is just monitoring.

the fcc channel #'s are what is used to drive the scanner/authorized subscriber unit to the correct voice channel.

without that data (or if it's encrypted/changed/or "obfuscated") - then any radio without the right channel # data (i.e. a scanner) - will not follow the voice channels properly

plus it will keep "system key generated" radios the hell off our SmartZone.

very nice indeed.

this was seen on CPS 7.0, but our 6.02 host radios would NOT allow the box to be checked, i suspect this is yet another version 7.00 firmware feature.

LCNs for moto trunking, never thought i would see it.

I just ordered updated flashes for some of my XTS2500's to get familiar with the re-banding configuration. When I get them loaded I'll check it out with the recently D/L CPS 7.0. :D

Yes it will be very nice to get those unauthorized affiliations from showing up.

Sounds more like Motorola's answer to MA-Com's ESK.

I wonder if the MTS/MCS & XTS3000/Astro CPS will have the same capability in the re-banding version.

So it's just like on VHF/UHF, where you define your own channel list, rather than having one hardcoded?

They should've done that in the beginning, to make things easier for the international market, if for no other reason.

Wow, that's going to suck until Uniden and GRE catch up. :o Then again, I'd imagine it would take a whole lot of work to "obfuscate" an entire system, expecially a large one with multiple sites and thousands of subscriber units. AND.. unless they also plan on releasing a flash upgrade for MTS and MCS radios, anyone who wants to use them is going to be SOL.

Y'know, in a way, we've kinda come full circle; from fleetmaps in Type 1 systems to channel bandplan maps in Smartzone/P25 systems.
