Sinclair vs. Andrew/Decibel VHF Exposed Dipole Arrays

Post by railtrailbiker »

Considering Sinclair SD224 or Andrew/Decibel DB224.

The Sinclair is $325 more expensive. The antennas are electrically equivalent (6db omni, 9db offset gain).

Is the Sinclair worth the extra $325?

i think you'll find the sinclair to be about 20lbs heavier than the DB.

it's built like a brick outhouse... designed for ice, etc.

For what it's worth I think the Celwave/RFS version of the 4 dipole antenna is the best one around...take a look at that as well.

Center conductor portion of the elements pointing down (presumably more lightning protection) and cable harness interior to the mast, and heavier built.

You're thinking of the PD340, which used to be a Phelps-Dodge antenna, yes? Decibel builds a clone of that antenna, known as the DB264. Quite rugged.
