Radio may not be a GP300. Common to find GP88's and P110's in GP300 clothes!

GP300s and P110s are the same radio, frame, hardware and accessories, only the case and batteries are different.

Sounds like he's got a radio with a corrupt codeplug, have you tried reprogramming with a NEW codeplug with known good data?

What year was the radio made, if prior to 1994, you 'could' have a toolkit hacked radio, post 1994 radios have a different processor to prevent toolkit (bogus) RSS hacks that were common in the earlier radios.

I no longer have my GP300 RSS manual, after so many moves, it got lost somehow, so I can't search for exact information on the problem you are having, but I have had bad codeplugs as a result of radios being programmed with 'TK'(toolkit).
