Strange problem Gp344
Hi guys, anybody around here who have I clue what’s wrong with my Gp344. When I turn it off the radio starts to beep every five seconds. Not until I turn it on the beep stops and the radio seems to work fine. I have tried upgrading the radio with new firmware but no luck.
Re: Strange problem Gp344
Hi,
If I understand correctly and this beep is a power up alert tone, there can be a hardware problem in your GP344. As you know, these radios have electronic ON/OFF control circuit. Possible reason is damaged "Q400" tstr mosfet which is located on control board or any other ON/OFF control circuit problem or maybe broken paths on control card.
If there is a short-circuit in Q400 then radio can not shutdown itself because SWB+ (7.5V battery) will continue to support the whole board over damaged mosfet.
BTW, it is just my guess. I hope you will find a solution.

Re: Strange problem Gp344
Hi,
Interesting! I just repaired a GP388 radio which had same problem like your radio. When I turn the radio off starts to beep (power up alert tone) about every five seconds. I changed Q400 mosfet as I decribed above and radio works fine now!
