Alignment of modern radio
A friend who owns our local ham repeater showed me how he aligns the front end of the GE Mstr2. A nylon device is inserted into the coils & adjusted while the radio is connected to the signal generator. Then he shows me how to align a Jedi using the RSS software making adjustments with "virtual pots" while again similarly using the signal generator for the clearest tone. So how is this done on a XTS 5000, or 2500. Does the tech use a laptop with tuner software, & just hit enter & the software does the rest automatically, or is a signal generator used similar to the Jedi? Just curious. GARY N4KVE

In part it depends upon the equipment the tech has. If he is using a General Dynamics 2670, GD has software that runs on a computer that will read the data from the 2670 and tweak the radio. Otherwise, yes, the tech is probably using a computer + whatever sig-gen he has + whatever measuring gear he has + manual twiddling.
