APX Vehicle Adapter - O3 HHCH possible?

Was looking at the APX vehicle adapter, since I would like better RX in the car when mobile. I also got a little spoiled with my XTL with an O3 head.

Just wondering out loud if an o3 head on an APXVA was within the realm of possible?

They do show the HMN4079 full keypad mic as an option for the ...

Re: Any local agencies still using the Astro Saber ??

This weekend on COPS, it appears that the US Marshals' Atlanta fugitive task force is still using them.

The guy they were riding along with had one laid out on the table in front of him for the roll call and was using an Astro HHCH in his expedition. Don't know if it was a famous-yet-elusive A3 ...

HHCH W3 Astro Spectra with VRS ?

Apologies in advance if this has been covered. I tried searching and haven't been able to find exactly what I'm looking for.

My ideal mobile setup is a W3 UHF Astro Spectra with HHCH and a VHF VRS. I haven't been able to find if the W3 is compatible with a VRS or not.

Also, I gather that you can't ...

Re: Any local agencies still using the Astro Saber ??

Again, fair warning when they start hitting the auction block in a few years after the 700 system gets built out: the vast majority of them are 512K and VSELP or analog-only.

Saw that too. Another episode in Houston last week and the guy had a beat-to-sh!t, analog Saber II. Great radios, but I'm ...

Re: How easy to change 146-174 Astro Saber to 136-174?

Thank you. I thought that was the case, but when I decoded the model number I got 146-174 split, which if you check the batlabs AS page shows as one of the possible splits.

I've never seen one that didn't do 136, but after reading I thought I must have been wrong.

How easy to change 146-174 Astro Saber to 136-174?

Astro Saber II with 1meg Vocon.

Is it easy to convert a 146-174 radio to a 136 -174 radio, (for example just bit banging the firmware) or is that a hardware problem.

I have my eye on one for ham use but I realized later it is a 146+ bandsplit.

Even tricking the CPS is good enough for what I want ...

Is there such a thing as VHF VRS for a spectra?

I see lots of UHF VRSs, but is there such a thing as a VHF vehicle repeater?

I want to use a UHF spectra for some ham stuff, but it would be nice if I could use my VHF XTS portable with the setup.

No no no, not talking about "factory cables". What I mean is: If people are already making their own XTS3000 ribless cables, then why does it not translate to the Astro Saber connector? If it was possible, they would be all over eBay- right?

Exactly. They are the same radio electronically so as ...

No, but I can buy some POS AS1 to try it on, if I'm really uptight about it.

Re: So can I hack a "ribless" xts3k cable into an AS cable?

Thanks for the replies guys.

I'm currently using a USB to serial converter to a serial cable to a rib to the rib cable to the radio. Not a USB cable.

My first thought agreed with Jim... if you get the pins right, it should work. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't crazy.

Thanks, guys.

So can I hack a "ribless" xts3k cable into an AS cable?

So I see these ribless cables on ebay a lot.

I know they aren't really ribless, just have a rib circuit in the plug end.

So is there any reason why I couldn't pin out the wires in the xts3k cable and hack on an astro saber cable end to program my astro saber?

Then instead of PC > USB/Serial ...

If it's set to check A then boot from C and the A drive fails, it will hang just has he describes. A good place to start is try unplugging the A drive altogether and see if it will boot from the c drive directly.

Another suggestion:

When I was looking into this stuff in the late 90s just for fun, the only one I found was made by some guy in Germany and it was like $15k.

Does anyone know what type of technology is used in "Eavesdrop Eliminator" FRS/GMRS Talkabouts? Is it DVP, Securenet or something of the like?

Also I thought FRS/GMRS was like Ham operation, with thumbs down for any scrabled/encrypted/coded transmissions.

A little pricey, but this is by far the best thing going for the 780.

No solder, built-in charging circuit, squelch-operated backlight timer. Slick as snot.

R is 438-482 Mhz by the model number chart.

Print one off from the batlabs "model number decoding" page. Look for the link to portables built after '92, near the bottom of the page. I always keep this handy when I'm surfing e-bay.
