XTS3000 Model 1
Hey all...
Is there any way to get a Model 1 XTS3000 to do 255 modes? I have a Model 1 right now that has a Model 3 codeplug in it, so it does 255 modes...
The reason I want 255 is so I can have a few scanlists...
Eg:
Channel 1 would reference a scanlist that scans 16 channels that aren't directly accessed by an individual channel.

Ummmm, yeah, you have already answered your question. Why would the factory allow any more than 48 modes for a Model I, when there's no way to access them? Shove a Model III codeplug in it, and sure you can get 255 modes...but can you acess them?ExKa|iBuR wrote:Hey all...

I don't want to access them.
Here's what I want to do...
For each OPP (Provincial Police) detatchment, they have a corresponding talkgroup for them. Each area also has an ambulance talkgroup and some conventional frequencies.
What I want to do is set up my radio so that when I go to say, Channel 4, it selects the OPP talkgroup for Hamilton. It would then auto-scan the Hamilton OPP and Ambulance talkgroups as well as some conventional frequencies for the area.
So basically, one channel would address an auto-scan list with half a dozen or so talkgroups.
Example:
Channel 1 is set to Conventional Personality 1 which is set to Scanlist 1. Scanlist 1 would contain half a dozen talkgroups that are in Zone 4 (which I can't directly access on the radio), and it would auto-scan.
The other advantage of this is that I can set the scan mode to Selected Channel revert on PTT, and set the conventional channel to RX only...that way I never have to worry about keying up where I shouldn't be (other than setting an invalid ID).

You are asking about putting 255 modes in a radio that you claim already does 255 modes...ExKa|iBuR wrote:Is there any way to get a Model 1 XTS3000 to do 255 modes? I have a Model 1 right now that has a Model 3 codeplug in it, so it does 255 modes...
Wow, you're wasting no time in tricking out our brand new $700 Model I, aren't ya? I hear putting a 2 ch HT600 codeplug into it with MTSX LAB will give it 512 modes. Try that.

True, but wouldn't scanning zillions of talkgroups on a display-less radio be just as confusing? You would have no clue about who's talking, what talkgroup is active, etc. saying nothing about things like programming custom scanlists, dynamic priority, etc.
Would it not just be simpler to make do with the existing amount of channels until you get a better radio? It sounds like you're trying to trick out a radio that really isn't designed for anything more than rudimentary use.
You spent money on a very limited radio, you might as well just use it to the best of its ability.
I bet you're wishing you spent that money on a scanner, eh?
Its a lot of coin to lay out just to use MODAT.

- What radios do you own?: FPP 6 meter XTL 5K's
I think you are asking for a continuous rotary knob option, I don't believe it exists for a xts.
You could put a III front, keypad, display and all the related parts that go with that on the radio, then you would know who is talking and could access options like zone, scan, program lists etc., certainly worth the $$$ to have it done.

Thanks for the back-up, Shaun. And that's list price too, I see.
Its certainly not as simple as buying a top display from eBay and snapping it on.
Unless you're willing to shell out about as much as you paid for the radio, Mike - I think you're stuck with your model I. I think you're better off spending your upgrade money on a better radio and selling the model I if you're that intent on having a display. Otherwise, just make do with your new toy. Its still a hell of a lot better than most people have.

Hey Larry,
Which Pro96 board did you see this on? Nice to hear that Rat Shack/GRE will be coming out with upgrades (if it is true).

Is this the same radio you were asking about recasing into an XTS5000 case?
Why would anyone bother?
Unless they can't afford the xts5000 but want everybody to think they've got an xts5000.
Doesn't the ambulance service in Toronto have XTS5000's?
Lets see, xts3000 model I recased into an XTS5000 case and a Muskoka EMS avatar although you admit you don't work for them.
What's next? The Toronto EMS jacket (or have you already got one)?
Hows that Cheech and Chong skit go?
Smells like a wannabe, looks like a wannabe, etc, etc.

I originally chastized Barry for being uneccesarily rude towards Excalibur & locked the topic. It has since been revealed that the comments are an inside joke, and not to be taken seriously by others 'not in the know'. I guess we can all jump to conclusions at times.

Well, for the record, I have no clue in hell who Barry is...
Buuuut...if he bothered to take his heads out of the clouds, he'd see why I want to recase into the Model 2 5000 case... I'd rather spend 50 bucks for a case than the 500 or whatever a model 2 3000 would cost.
And no, I don't have a Metro EMS jacket, I have a Niagara EMS jacket, as I was employed by them for a year.

Dude, before Todd locks this.
Are you A COMPLETE idiot, or just in your spare time?
I can get a Model 2 XTS5000 housing for 50 dollars. The cheapest I've found an XTS3000 Model 3 housing for is around 390.
I don't CARE if it looks like an XTS3000, 5000, or whatever, I just want the display. My question wasn't "How can I make this look like an EMS radio", my question was if it would work, physically and electronically.
You really don't understand the concept of saving money, do you? Why the HELL would I pay 390 bucks if something that costs 50 would do the same thing?? If everybody on here payed Motorola for the "real deal", then boards like this wouldn't need to exsist now, would they?
Your opinion means nothing to me, as it's obviously based on the fact you're either too ignorant or too lazy to even read what other people are posting before shooting your mouth off.
To the other members and moderators on here, sorry for getting on the soap box, but this guy was really pissing me off. I'm done.

Ok, Mike doesn't know who Barry is, and the thread has definitley run it's course. The parties involved can PM if they wish to straighten anything out, but the thread shall now remain locked.
