countdown...
I met some of you folks there last year. I'll be there, Friday @ 7AM to get in. Can't wait. I'll have to borrow the XTS3k again! Looking to buy either A/S3 or XTS (depending on $) VHF. Also looking for a VHF GP2000.
Yeah, I should have figured out long ago what the frequency plan is going to be. It's amasing how time seems to be flying by....
At any rate:
Why don't we just keep the band plans the same as last year. The only thing I thought about changing was the random DPL numbers, but I figured if there are already people who have them programmed in, why not leave them as is.
From last years post:

Well for frequency plan can we just stick to what we had last year? Just for nothing else but it worked nicely then and not for nothing with the thread from last year and the "Batlabs Frequency" threads the issue has been beaten to death several times over only to come back right where we started.

Sigh. I'll add some correction to this [like I did in this very same topic a few monthes ago...alex wrote: Name Frequency Service PL

#1 - 151.8200 - 11.25 KHz MAX
#2 - 151.8800 - 11.25 KHz MAX
#3 - 151.9400 - 11.25 KHz MAX
#4 - 154.5700 - 25 KHz - Blue Dot
#5 - 154.6000 - 25 KHz - Green Dot
Red Dot (which is really 151.6250) is not part of MURS, but is still a Business Radio Service frequency.
Also, MURS has a maximum power output of 2W Transmitter Power Output. Not 5 watts. I think this should be mentioned.
I couldn't have said it better myself.alex wrote: 5) Keep it legal.

Yes, Jon, your right.
Make sure your settings are what's listed there...
We would get LOTS of interfearance issues with people with "dot" radios, as well as need a $100 license.
So while programming your radios, adjust your settings as appropriate.
I'm doing my best to insure that we can all talk, but I also don't want one person to take the responsibility of others actions by asking to be covered under someone elses license...
Sigh. So much to worry about.
But, yes, Jon, thanks for rememind me about the 11.25 stuff.. i think we'll have to go narrower than that since I don't think most M stuff will do 11.25.

RIght - they are DOT frequencies. Which means that we need a license for those frequencies.
MURS is the only frequency block that allows for 2w, and yes, I needed to remember to put down the bandwidth limitations on the frequency...
What I was saying is that one of us would have to buy a business licnese to cover using the "DOT" frequencys. I'm not going to ask someone on the board who ISN'T going to be at dayton to let us "use" their license (since I think it's nationwide...) since the channel and operators on it are out of their physical control.
I'm not going to fund the license, I don't really have a need for it at this point, so I'm not really considering it an option.... If people want to send me money for the cause, well, that's another story, but I don't have the funding to support the project.
Also, since you haven't been to dayton, so you probably don't understand what happens. Everyone uses portables and walks on eachother since so many of the frequencies are in use. FRS, GMRS, HAM, it's all FILLED with people just trying to communicate at dayton. You don't know, respect, or understand how diffuclt it is to plan ahead. You just gotta hope it all works when you get there.

You don't need a license to use Blue dot [154.5700 MHz] and Green dot [154.6000 MHz] channels. They were removed from the Business Radio Band, and are now part of MURS. No license need apply. I hope this clears up any confusion.alex wrote:RIght - they are DOT frequencies. Which means that we need a license for those frequencies.

Also, Alex, since you are an admin, I think that personal attacks are uncalled for. The last part of your message could have been PM'd to me.

That was a personal attack? I think it was a statement of fact. If you've never been to such an event, it is true, you CAN NOT appreciate or imagine the chaos, the difficulty in planning. I've never been to Dayton, but I've been to the airshow at Oshkosh and Lakeland Fla, and trust me, there are enough hams there to cause chaos, never mind everyone else with a walkie talkie of this or that variety.
If you think that was a personal attack, you need to reevaluate how you feel about yourself. The post from Alex was a general statement of absolute fact. It's sad you feel it was an attack upon you.

For those intrested, the sentence that ticked me off was: "You don't know, respect, or understand how diffuclt it is to plan ahead. "
Now, come on now, are we going to take up space in this topic critiqueing how I feel, or are we going to talk about radio frequencies at Dayton?
I hope we choose the latter.
This topic is a double-edged sward. I'll explain.
On one hand, there is whining about getting licensed under Part 90, and being licensed for frequencies that I suspect are less likely to be used at Dayton. On the other, there is whining about getting talked on with MURS, FRS, GMRS, and Ham frequencies.
If it's not number one, nor number two, then what are we supposed to do?

To Clarify:
I was most certainly not trying to take a stab at you. I was trying to make it clear that it is diffuclt to plan ahead for this event. There are severl other people who will back me on this. In the past when I've gone with groups of people who had programmable radios we had to change frequencies 5 times over 3 days just to keep in reliable contact. It was to the point where the radio would start falsely reading PL tones... It's not a good thing.
So, that wasn't at all ment to annoy or tick you off, it was purly to try and explain the diffuclty in trying to make every individaul happy and have a system that works when even for the most part simplex isn't reliable.
Sorry you took it that way, and i'll look at the 25khz stuff later, I wasn't too aware.

Does some one have the GPS coordinates of Hera Arena? Depending on range from my location, I have a lot of licenses that may or may not be usable...

...those fine dayton hotels...
hey, I wonder if that crappy hotel is still in existence near the airport...it was called the "sheridan" hotel, DEFINITELY not to be confused w/ the Sheraton chain.....it was so bad I actually slept in my car...it was so pathetic it was actually funny...you just had to laugh at the place...doors hanging off the hinges, broken windows, tropical rain forest growing in the pool.....On another note, I have a general observation: to our young friend in the midwest- I understand you are young and hopefully you will grow out of it, but I think you have to learn to practice a little humility in your life, (or at least in postings) as I believe you are rapidly earning the title of the "Ambassador of Frivolous Information" .....think about it.......

What is the longitude and latitude of the Dayton Hamvention®?
Hamvention® is located at Hara Arena in Trotwood, Ohio. It is situated at North 39° 49.245" and West 84° 15.400."
2 motel reservations for the asking
Just read the thread and I hope to meet up with a few of you good folks at the show. I've been going to Dayton for over 15 years but never really networked with a lot of people during that time. I will be great to finally put some faces with names...if possible. I only have older ham-grade equipment for now (hopefully that will change at the show if I can find an HT-1550 or similar), so I hope I can get through all the digital and DPL to say hi.
If any of you are vendors, I'll be sure to stop by and at least spend time if not a few bucks.
Now, I also have two motel reservations that were my backups. Since everything's now confirmed, I'm offering these two rooms (both rooms have two double beds) to the first two who e-mail or IM me. One is very close to the Hara (near I-75 Exit 60) and the other is a few miles south, but easy commute distance. I don't recall the rates, but they're relatively inexpensive properties...nothing fancy.

Dayton, the FCC, and all that is good.
Hello.
I might make it at the Dayton free for all, after all.
The Sheridan is not really all that bad, more than a dozen he/she homos approve of it, but for the normal people?
The reason for the ATF, FBI, FCC, whatever, is due to the fact that people will try to sell just about anything at Dayton, including AK47s, stella SAM missle, countless handguns, not to count the number of radios that "will talk to each other", almost always on some fire or police freq's.
The upper limit for the "CB shoot-out" herd seems to be somewhere around 14 thousand watts?!, at least last year.
This is the why, and, it is asked that, if you do hear something out of place, kindly let someone know, but take no action on your part.
With that said, 'most every channel that can be used, is, from 1750 meter LF to microwave, telegraph to UV, really DC to daylight.
No real concern over someone who is running radio legit, everybody is going to be busy with the "normal" prob's.
Thank You.

And on a Sidenote... RichyRadio... did you take that picture yourself or did you find that somewhere. I know that view all too well. Sadly you can't do that anymore.

Just a lil' question... does anyone know Ohio's scanner laws for in the car? I can't recall, but I think they were a "no scanner" state, I think.

Since a couple people wanted clarification:
These are the frequencies for astro x-band. This will be setup on friday, and quite possilby through Saturday as well. Depends on when our provider leaves for home.
146.5750
446.8250
This repeater will pass Analog and IMBE CAI Digital (I can't remember if VSELP has been tested or not...)
For analog, use a DPL of 143. This repeater will pass anything put through it, including noise, so keep this in mind.
If you have any questions about this, drop me a line.

....avatar pic...
Hi Jaymz...took that pic myself, it's from the 108th ('scuse me, was from the108th) floor setback.....the floor was filled w/ tons of hvac stuff and the walls were set back so you could put microwave link antennas in the "mullions"..(name for the windowless frames) ...you could not get that pic from the roof as the decorative aluminum was slanted at an angle and you could not lean out far enough to see down below...I took that pic when I first got my digital camera...got alot of interesting pics from there and Empire...think I'll change my avatar and go through a few...(including the paper plane competition) ...I tell 'ya, at times, I still don't believe it's gone...I still find myself saying "gee, I need this or that- let me go down to the transmitter and get it".... as time goes by that thought gets cut shorter and shorter.......

Dayton, here I come!
As it turns out, my schedule will allow me to make Dayton this year (for a couple weeks I though I'd have to cancel). I'm leaving Holland, Michigan at 1:00 a.m. and I should be there by 6:30 a.m. Have reservations in the Country Seasons (but the name just changed to something else, it's by the McDonalds).
God bless and I'll see you all in a few hours.
Fitz Fitzgerald.

Last night
Hello.
My last night in Dayton.
I have seen everything I wanted to see, and perhaps a just a bit more.
Found the "green radio" groups, modern and the boat anchers, pretty much stay there and learn what I can.
If you have a chance, check out some of the military flavor /\/\ radios, both old and new.
