On repeater I understand that it is TDMA format but on simplex what form of digital does it use?
Sorry for the newbie question but I am trying to learn and read up on this stuff in case the new Yaesu Amateur Handheld turns out to be this format?

Yes Motorola made a Keynote Tone & Voice/Numeric Pager. It was a Golay paging format and I think was pretty cool as I have a few. Problem is Golay is pretty much a format of the past!

No it is not MDC I know that for sure. I am seeing if it can be something similar like when you had a secure capable Syntor X9000 and you transmited in the clear it would beep at you real quick when you would key-up. If you had it in secure mode then it would not beep at all.

Yes the model 15 should have a high low alert tone. Go into the programming and it should be under alerts. I want to say there are 4 different alerts on the 15. If you have a manual it will tell you how and where to look for them.

Granted VHF is crowded and your sites are far apart but I still would recommend SmarTrunk Solutions as the controllers can be linked via standard telephone connections. No VoIP, DSL, T1, T3, etc... needed just a good plain old POTS line.

How many conventional channels do they have??? If they have two or more then maybe they should look at a Smartrunk solution. It will allow crossing a conventional channel into a trunk system and also all you have to do is just add a board into the CDM so they get to keep the same radios and upgrade ...
